Reggae @ PARC

Now I am a huge fan of reggae music. It was always around us while growing up in Ghana, mostly the classic Bob tunes, but I truly got into the spirit of the music while living in Hawaii. There I was introduced to some of the greats, such as Steel Pulse, Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, Don Carlos, Alpha Blondy, and many more. We went to some of the phatest open air concerts and smoked some of da best kine. Once I moved back to Jakarta there were not too many people I knew who were really into reggae music and I was pretty weary of No Woman No Cry. I mean I love Bob but too much of anything will kill it. At the beach, my friends and I would get down to some of the classics but apart from that there was no real scene here that I know. Even the rasta’s I knew were hungry.

Quite a while ago however I did come across an Indo reggae club on friendster and immediately added them to my list. I got messages occasionally regarding parties on Tuesday nights at PARC but that’s a pretty odd night of the week to head out on, nonetheless I did venture out a few months ago. When I got there I was pretty disappointed to see only handful of people sitting around and they did not seem like they were even there for the party. The music was good so I had a few drinks and took off. Last night however was a whole different story.

I got a message on my freindster a few days ago about the re-launch of Reggae Revolution at PARC. I figured what the hell, let me hit it up again and see what happens. I needed something to write about in my blog anyways. So after getting all tipsy at Fez, by mate B and I took off to PARC. When we got there they were playing some dance hall tracks and the crowd was pretty thin but within half an hour the place started to pack up and I also ran into some old friends of mine. PARC is pretty small so the atmosphere was warm and well, cozy I guess. The music could have been better with more original tracks and maybe some old school ska. As the night wore on they should have hit up some lovin tunes from Gregory to bring on the heat but that didn’t happen. The music was aight but they do need some better variety out here. I cant stand pop and club remixes to reggae beats. You cant really blame the DJ’s though cause it must be fukin hard to get good reggae records out here. It was a pretty awesome night still and the vibe was good. There was J’s being passed all over the place, no hang-ups at all. I hope they keep this shit commin. One Love…
