Jackson Moonwalks

I woke up early this morning and for some strange reason decided to watch the news. Normally I would just head out to my office but I felt like chilling a while and having a cup’ a tea. I turned on the news and the first thing I hear is that Michael Jackson has been cleared of all ten charges against him and he is NOT GUILTY…

I had watched some of the channel E re-enactments, probably more than I would like to admit and I found the prosecutions case very weak as well. So based on that I did not believe that he committed the crimes he was accused of. I saw the jury say a few words and they also claim that the accuser’s testimony sounded rehearsed and coached. What really closed the book for me were the testimonies by McCauley Caulkin and the other Australian dude. We all have our own opinions on whether we think he is guilty or not but for now he has been found not guilty in a court of law and he should be permitted to head back to his so called life. But will he be left alone? I seriously doubt it.

I remember while the trial was on, I had gotten into a heated argument with a friend of mine who said Michael was guilty. She had not watched any of the re-enactments nor read any transcripts but had already made up her mind firmly. Her opinion was based on the fact that Jackson appears to be a basket case. Which he might be but that does not make him a child molester I disputed. The media has done such a number on this man for so many years that it is hard for some people to view him as human anymore. How was someone like Michael Jackson supposed to receive a fair trial? And was this a fair trial at the end of the day or did the better, more expensive, lawyer win?

The information we receive on a daily basis is controlled by news papers and television broadcasters and in effect they have a certain amount of control over our perceptions and ideas. It takes a lot of effort to remain unbiased when keeping up to date with current events. FOX news is a clear example of a news station that abuses their power. They boast “we report, you decide” but in my opinion they are so fucking pro-republican and pro-Bush, that it amazes me more people do not see the irony in their slogan. They actually convinced Americans that they were Anti-American if they questioned anything pertaining to “the war”. And for a while even musicians and artists did not have the balls to voice an opinion. You would think that after the whole Vietnam fiasco in the 60’s that musicians would be aching to start a revolution. I guess back then the artists were not really concerned about their record sales or advertising contracts with Pepsi and Nike.
“When you aint got nothin, then you aint got nothin to loose.” – Bob Dylan

The media is now chasing the jurors who have become instant celebrities. The head guy was already on Larry King and most of the others have already signed book deals. It is at times like this that I am reminded what a strange world we live in. If one can not see some lunacy in that then I am afraid they have gone too far over the edge already. Watching the news clips this morning I saw hundreds of people cheering outside the courthouse. Some had shirts off, others carried banners, and one woman even released white doves as Jackson was acquitted of every charge. Where the hell do these people come from??!! Don’t they have jobs or families? I am proud to say I do not know anyone so fanatical because honestly, I would find it hard to turn my back on them. I saw some brothers crying and then look up with an expression I can only define as deranged.

I don’t think people in 3rd world countries leave their jobs to go support a pop idol who had been charged with child molestation. These people in America must really have time on their hands. And I am curious to know how many of those vagabonds living outside the courthouse actually went out to vote the last election. I am sure the results would be frightening. In any case, Jackson walks and we can only hope the system worked. I also hope the dumb ass media leaves poor Mikey alone.

it upsets me that society is so feeble in morals that they can throw a musical genius of our time in the lions den as such for the sake of their own personal benefit. mikey is an albeit strange character- and it may be argued strange due to his unconventional upbringing- but to wrongfully accuse him of such a heinous crime so that he will forever be labelled as a 'molester' even though he has been found not guilty is a clear injustice. especially after his generosity towards them. the money- hungry few who have abused society's pre- notions of mikey from his last not- guilty case in the 90s and played the media to turn the world against one of the world's greatest should be burnt at the stake.
