Kono Pizza

For the last few weeks, for two months in fact, there have been banners, flyers, posters, and sign boards all over Kelapa Gading, announcing the opening of KONO PIZZA on the 2nd floor of KGM 3. The proprietors of Kono Pizza also happen to own Cinnzeo, a cinnamon bun joint on the ground floor of KGM 3 that really is quite good. In addition they own Hot Shots which is a burger place located in La Piazza, also in Kelapa Gading. Hot Shots in my opinion serves up one of the best burgers in town and they also have beverages such as Sarsaparilla and Portello. And yes boys, it takes just like the one we used to get in Tesano Club.

With the entire buzz going on about Kono Pizza I finally made up my mind to head there for lunch today. At first I thought this would be some sort a Japanese twist on pizza but once I saw the banners up close I realized that these people were putting pizzas into cones. The idea did seem strange to me but I had to give it a shot. Pizza is my most favorite food and this could be a culinary revolution

I just got back from lunch. What the fuck were they thinking!!?? Pizza in a cone makes as much sense as ice cream spread out flat on a plate, is how my sister put it. I’m sorry, but this just did not work for me. There seemed to be a general flow of people coming in while I was there but I am sure once the novelty is gone this place will fade away. But then again, stranger things have worked in this country. I thought this might just taste like a pizza folding half but it was not like that at all.

Have you ever heard of this place? I am pretty sure this is a franchise as the kitchen equipment was customized. The cones which are just made of dough are placed in a cone shaped holder where they are filled with whatever filling you order. They then go around in an assembly line manner, through holes in a big metal stove and come out hot and steamy on the other end. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the KONO PIZZA!!

Hi Avi, i heard about this, read about it on trendwatching.com and springwise see below, also check out http://www.springwise.com/newsletter/newsletter.html

Cone Shaped Pizzas

Invented in Italy (where else), cone shaped pizzas -- think pizza slice meets ice cream cone -- are the latest fast food craze. Kono Pizza offers the convenience of eating on the move without making a mess. The EUR 1.50 cones are filled with the desired toppings, then cooked in a special oven in only three minutes. Kono currently runs 5 restaurants in Italy (Rome, Milan, Verona, Udine, Salerno), and is actively looking for franchisees.

It has already sold the concept to entrepreneurs in Spain (Madrid), Germany (Kassel), Kuwait and Indonesia (Jakarta), and has apparently also installed its first oven in Harrods, London. That leaves another 185 or so fast-food obsessed nations hungry for the next hot thing in snacking and obesity.

Thanks for the info bro. I cant believe those Italians sold out. Get Tony Soprano on the phone. But trust me dude, it tastes crapy. Go try the one at Harrods. Any news on the air fares?

Doesn't look all that appetising to me, but looks can be deceiving. Wouldn't mind giving it a shot, but would not go out of my way to try one....if it's the same taste as a regular pizza that is...(now we have to say regular pizza).

This concept might take off though...especially for people on the go...is it messy of pretty much compact once you're teeth have dug into it?

Thats an easier and faster way to get heart burn is what my stomach is saying to Kono Pizza...gave up pizza long time ago...but still love the crust....mmmm...crust...Papa John's is the best here...it has bread sticks and they taste just like the crust without all the tomato sauce and with garlic butter dipping sauce....mmm...sauce...

Speaking of local pizza, can't really say that I'm a particualarly modest fan....especially for hand-tossed or pan...thin crust is another story....maybe I can relate to the thinness of it...

Oh, those home made pizzas that Gladys used to make....with the shitto....

shitto's the shit yo...

I guess we're stuck with izzy's or papa ron's. Glad you tried it before me! ;)

I'm sure you've tried Verona's right? That's pretty good stuff - and cheap Heineken.

Izzi Pizza is pretty damn good. The ones at Pisa Cafe in Menteng are pretty good too. Is Verona Cafe the one between Piaza and KGM 1?

Pizza in a cone sounds bad to the bone baby.... can't imagine that shit tastin good. Of course we have to open our minds and give it a shot though. Pizza at jokers is still the shit though...the view ain't bad too!!

Sorry dudes and dudettes, but papa rons, izzys, kono's etc... dont come close to a nice slab of New York's finest "Pronto Pizza". I reccommend their pepperoni pizza slice, the pepperoni slices are slightly crispy from the clay oven fire and the mozzarella becomes soaked in the oil from the pepperoni, the tomato gravy is made fresh from scratch by their own mama's italian recipe, and the crust has the right balance of thickness and crispness. Just add their special oregano mixture and dried crushed red pepper on top and get ready to enjoy! Who's mouth is watering now?

damn...gimme one of those fresh pizzas...

avi- dont know what to think of cone shaped pizzas. seems like a waste of time to me. soon we will be getting hot dog shaped burgers. if u ask me, a pizza is a pizza, a hot dog is a hot dog and a burger is a burger. as in your justification for continuing your alcoholic lifestyle- why fuck with a good thing? just to let u know, had two 16 inch rockys just now in singapore. pure ecstacy.

Indo Dreamin' said...

You guys cant keep rubbing all these pizzas in my face. You know how I feel about rocky's man!! I would fly to SP just for that. Infact when I do have to go there that is all i do. Stay in the hotel and order rocky's. What the fuck else would I want with SP?

And thanks for the supprt mate. Lets go get pissed NOW!

Uh, I just dont understand you guys. I lived in Milan for 10 years, and everytime I visited Jakarta and went to pizza stores, I always missed that crusty and crunchy pizza. Reading your mumbo-jumbo about this kono pizza, checked its website and found out that it came from Padova, Italy, then I gave a shot. Of course u have to try the basic one, Margherita, if u wanna know if the pizza is good or a crap. And hey, damn u Avi, i bet u aint like pizza at all, if u dont like this yummy crusty pizza. The looks can be deceiving, but the taste? Never get the one as good as this Konopizza. I missed Milan no more.

Christa _ I was watching this program on Travel and Discovery the other day about pizza's. Yes, a one hour show just about pizza's. They had chicago deep dish, NY thin crust, pot pizza, and many more. But a cone pizza is not natuaral. I do not see how you can compare pizza in a cone to real italian pizza. Do you work for them? Ah well, next time you in JKT holla at me and Ill take you for the best pizza in town. One that I havnt mentioned yet.
