Kehinde Wiley

Here is a great artist that to me seems to be revoking Renaissance styles on an urban level. I can't put my finger on it but something about his approach really appeals to me. I think it is the way he is using black males, dressed in stereotypical street wear, but presented as noble beings. Even more so provocative is the manner in which he has feminized some of the characters. Check out his work here.
