Canggu Sunset Villa

When I take trips up to Bali I usually try to stay at different villa’s to savor fresh experiences. I do not like staying at hotels and I also find that while staying in villa’s in various areas I get to explore different sides of the island. An added advantage is that I do not run into the main stream tourists. This time we rented the Canggu Sunset Villa for about US$350 a night. It had 6 bedrooms, all with attached bathrooms and one guest bathroom. It is located about 15-20 minutes drive from the commercial area of Seminyak, where there are loads of bars and restaurants. The property itself is nestled in between the serene rice fields and only 5 minutes away from the beach.

A small bridge over a pond is the only access to the house from the small driveway. It enters directly into the main house. The compound holds 2 traditional Balinese houses, each with 3 bedrooms. Both houses also have open kitchens with living rooms, TV’s, cushions, and couches. The main house also has a DVD player and a pretty good sound system. Both living rooms open out onto a garden with a decent sized kidney shaped pool and a ‘Bale’ which is a great place to chill in cool evenings.

The main house had a separate bar area with its own refrigerator which we found extremely handy. Thanks to Rishi, we were well stocked with booze for our entire 10 day stay at the villa. There were ample glasses and ample space to store mixers. This is where I have been for the last 10 days. I could not have wished for a better vacation. Great friends, great location, and more than enough to drink. What more could a man ask for?

Overall the Canggu Sunset Villa was an awesome place to stay and furthermore the rate was a steal for the hospitality and comfort we received. For a large group who rather steer clear of the crowded night clubs and busy streets of Kuta, this is the ideal getaway. Warm days and cool nights can be spent in and around the villa just talking story and sun worshiping. And for the more adventurous, there are numerous temples around the area and you will only be a stones throw away from some kick ass surf spots. There is only one thing that kept tickling my brain as I lay out on the deck chairs by the pool. This carving on the peak of the roof of the main house kept reminding me of something. But I can’t seem to put my finger on it.
